Children. I work in an elementary school library and also for a local independent book store. Kids excited about reading keeps me going. I also have 2 young granddaughters that keep me on my toes. I’ve become friends with a number of authors and illustrators and seeing their creativity inspires me to stay passionate for the early and learning reader.

Teaching children inspires me to be creative.

Children also inspire me to be creative. Creativity boosts confidence and births even more creativity when we are given the freedom to express ourselves. The refugee tutoring program in my neighborhood provides art and dance during language arts & math tutoring sessions. I'm impressed with how these creative outlets bring healing and joy to the students. Volunteering with students from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East has also given me an awareness of the importance of books that represent them!

I'm not the most creative person. I have three boys and my oldest, age 6, is extremely creative. He comes up with crazy ideas and begs me to make them happen. I have to hit Pinterest and Google. Some of his ideas work and others are impossible. His creativity makes me more creative so that I can make his ideas come to life.
